About your Stay
"and a little bit about us"

Neil, Rosemary and their staff will endeavour to look after you and ensure that your stay is a memorable and happy one.

The small hard-working team of friendly and helpful permanent staff is assisted by seasonal staff - local students and overseas hospitality workers, for whom they offer on-the-job training.

Neil and Rosemary Colquhoun acquired Greshornish House in 2004. Before moving to Skye, their home had been on the Ardnamurchan peninsula not far from where Rosemary was brought up. They have four sons, three daughters-in-law and three grandchildren - and a pair of labradors!

Since moving to Greshornish House, much work has been done to enhance the facilities consistent with the listed status of the property. Guest bedrooms and bathrooms have been upgraded and extensive interior redecoration is on-going - as is the work being done to reclaim the walled garden after half a century and more of neglect! Among other plaudits Greshornish House is now rated by Visit Scotland as four star fully licensed guest accommodation, is a member of The Scotch Beef Club, has been specially commended as "Good for the Soul" in the Hotel Review Scotland 2008, and was a finalist in the Most Excellent Waterside Hotel category in the Condé Nast Johansens 26th Annual Awards for Excellence. In 2009 we were awarded a Gold Plate, Breakfast Rosette and Red Hospitality Commendation by Hotel Review Scotland.

The following information may be helpful:

How do I request a booking?

In the first instance, go to the contact us page, submit the form and we will get back to you as soon as we can. Alternatively e-mail us from the link opposite, or call us on the telephone. (Please don't be put off if you find you are unlucky enough to reach our answerphone!)

My reservation and how do I pay a deposit?

After we receive your booking request, we will respond by e-mail, letter or telephone, offering you whatever rooms are available for the appropriate time. It will then only remain for you to confirm your reservation by making a deposit of £50 - £100. All major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, Switch, Amex) are accepted, or you may be happier to send a cheque. We in turn will notify you of your booking reference after the deposit has been received. Unfortunately, we cannot hold rooms without a deposit, particularly at busy times of year. Please note that under our cancellation policy all deposits are non-refundable.

Cancellation policy?

Under the terms of our standard cancellation policy, cancellation within 14 days of the booked day of arrival will result in the payment of the full value of the booking becoming immediately due. In the event of cancellation more than 14 days before the booked arrival day, the liability will be limited to the value of the deposit already taken (or to £50 per person if no such deposit has been taken). Deposits are always non-refundable and will be deemed to constitute part of any cancellation charge. (Please refer to our Terms and Conditions for Standard Bookings for full details.) More important, we very much hope that you will not need to cancel!

We strongly recommend that our guests take out travel insurance to cover unavoidable cancellations.

Important: Your booking will be considered cancelled from 8.00pm on the date of your arrival unless we have been contacted to inform us of your late arrival.

Check-in and Check-out

Check-in is between 4.00pm and 6.00pm. If for any reason you find that you are likely to arrive after 6.00pm, please let us know.

On the day of departure, rooms should be vacated by 10.30am. If this is likely to cause difficulty, please let us know.

Mobile phone reception

Signal strength in this area of Skye is very patchy, and there are many places in which mobile phones do not work. There is reception for some networks in the garden and grounds, but not in the house itself.

Is there Broadband connection?

Guests are able to access the internet dial-up connection in their rooms, and in addition they can be given access to a Broadband connection in Reception if they have their own laptop. We do not have Wi-fi.

The pattern of the day...

Breakfast is normally served between 8.30 and 9.30 am daily. If breakfast is required earlier than this, for example to fit in with ferry timings, a continental breakfast can easily be arranged. Please inform Reception before 9.00 pm the evening before.

Coffee and tea are available throughout the day on request at reception.

Lunch: Soup and sandwiches or a light lunch is available daily in the Conservatory between 12.00 and 2.00pm. A-la-Carte seafood lunches are a feature of the summer months.

Afternoon Tea is served in the Conservatory between 3.30 and 5.00 pm.

Dinner is served between 7.00 - 9.00 p.m. Children’s meals are available earlier by arrangement.
